Bridgeport
Home of Chicago’s 46-year dynasty of mayors from 1933 to 1979 (Edward J. Kelly, Martin Kennelly,
Richard J. Daley and Michael Bilandic). Mayor Richard J. Daley lived his entire life in this neighborhood.
When he died, he was living in a modest brick bungalow at 3536 S. Lowe Avenue, in the same block as the house
he was born in. His son, Richard M. Daley, the present Mayor of Chicago - is in his 3rd term in office.

Bridgeport got its name because it was near a bridge on the river that boats could not pass under.
Cargo had to be unloaded, loaded on to carts and then loaded back on to bardges waiting on the other
side of the bridge.
